SPMA1 Selected Problems in Mathematics, summer semester 2015/2016

This is a seminar devoted to discussion of several open mathematical problems. We will start with basic mathematical notions -- sets, polynomials, matrices -- and gradually will arrive to the actual mathematical research. The topics will include combinatorics, group theory, Lie algebras, operads, mathematical logic, statistics, computer calculations, applications to biology. The seminar will be informal and will be oriented toward anyone interested, from first year students till faculty. No previous knowledge beyond basic mathematics is required. The seminar may serve as a source of topics for theses on all possible levels -- from bachelor till PhD -- and will be conducted in English. Participating students will get credits. All are welcome!
